Rhodes Architectural Stone provides more than just building materials. With our specialized knowledge of masonry and masonry installation, we can help you choose the right stone for your project. Our services include consultations, international stone searches, CAD shop drawings, and delivery of materials to the job site. While Rhodes Architectural Stone does not install stone, we can recommend excellent masonry contractors nationwide and act as technical consultants for your installation. See Rhodes

Initial Consultation

Architects and/or clients typically call us to discuss the scope of stone requirements for the project. We then follow-up the initial conversation with a packet of high-resolution photographs of our products and/or possibly stone samples that we think may address your needs. If appropriate, we may then schedule a meeting with you.

It is helpful for us to know the approximate square footage and rough layout of the area you are surfacing in stone, so we can give the best possible advice and estimate.

International Stone Searches

Finding the right material for your project can be a daunting and exhausting process. We are often hired to facilitate and manage this process. With our vast knowledge of quarrying as well as strategic alliances with numerous quarries in the US, Canada, China, Indonesia, and Europe, we can often locate materials that have not been previously considered. Many of our most successful projects involve masonry materials that have never been used in that geographic area or involve innovative treatments of more commonly considered materials.

As the labor cost of extracting stone is considerably less in Asia, our customers often reclaim the cost of shipping the stone to the US in the first load of stone.

About Samples

Unlike most stone suppliers, our samples are not small chips, but large blocks 6" x 6" x 1.5" in dimension. These larger-scale samples give you a large enough surface to get a good idea of what the hand-finish will look like. Our samples are available in several different textures and different kinds of stone: granite, sandstone, and limestone. Once we have discussed which stone color and type is most appropriate for your project, we will send you samples blocks. Available hand finishes vary by supplier and material, but include traditional European-style split-face, adze and honed.

Shop Drawings

We have found that the key to perfect fabrication begins with precise shop drawings. We take great pride in the clarity and attention to detail in our drawings.

Because we are fabricating overseas, we often build full-scale mock-ups for more complex pieces, carefully fitting each piece together for ease of disassembly and reconstruction.

Shop drawings are billed out at an hourly rate and are included in any estimates we give you. It is your choice as to whether you use our services or another vendor's.

After shop drawings are approved, they are sent to the appropriate supplier and manufactured to spec.
