Mill Wheels
The natural antique granite mill wheels collected by Rhodes Architectural Stone are from the Shandong Yellow River Valley region of China, and were carved circa 1400-1600 AD.  Native granite was the prevalent carving and paving stone for emerging Chinese villages in the province during that period.

Large mill wheels are the circular grinding stone, upon which an ox or donkey would customarily pull around a mill roller to crack and mill grain. Smaller wheels were operated by hand. Each stone develops a natural patina that varies in color and complexity based on its exposure to the gentle wear of over 500 years of the environment and mankind.

In modern gardens these wheels are often seen as stepping stones, garden ornaments, table tops, or as part of a fountain.
